The Thing my Soul Wants Most

Travel. All I want is to see the world! I have traveled very little in my life and yet I know this is true. I have been to a few states in the Easternmost part of the United States other than my home state of Michigan,  as well as parts of Southeastern Canada and a few islands in the Bahamas (on a cruise). Where do I want to go specifically? Everywhere and anywhere. I want to learn about other people and cultures, explore cities, try new food and drinks, see different types of architecture, and most of all, explore nature. I want to hike the mountains of Switzerland, drive through the African Safari, scuba dive in the Oceans, jump off a waterfall in New Zealand, snowboard at every mountain in Colorado, take photos in front of the Eiffel tower, learn about my ancestors’ homeland in Ireland and Germany, and much, much more! We were given this big, beautiful world for a reason; to go out and see it! I find myself to be a very fickle person in terms of what kind of career I think would be best for me and what type of home I would like and whether I want to settle down soon or not. But one thing always remains the same; I want to explore. I want to learn and see and do. I want to pretend I am the first person to set foot on the peak of some mountain in New Zealand and tear up at the sight of the sunset on the ocean and share my travel stories with my friends and family. In my (nearly) 22 years of life, I have found that exploration and adventure and nature are the things that when combined, make me feel like anything is possible and that I can do it all. It makes me feel exhilarated and free and so inexplicably energized and just plain happy. And what else do we ask for in life other than that feeling? It is in my heart and soul to explore. And I will do whatever it takes to do just that.

The Power of Music

Something about music is just so alluring. Although people’s preference on the type of music they listen to varies widely, everyone likes it. And the fact that everyone likes different kinds of music almost makes it even better. It is like part of what makes you you. For me, it varies. I like some country, but only the happy stuff about floating down the river and love and drinking beer; summer country. Not the mopey stuff. I like some rap, but very little. Most things that are all about sex and drugs are not my forte’. I love most rock and roll, probably because that is primarily what my parents listened to when I was growing up. I like a lot of alternative music, because it’s just weird and gives me this… interesting feeling and almost makes me think differently… or deeper… or something. It’s difficult to explain. Which brings me right back around to why music is so amazing. Every song does something different to every single person. One song can make three different people feel energized, sad, and sentimental all at the same time. It is all connected to our experiences in my opinion. We may have heard a certain song a long time ago and we subconsciously connect it to a memory that we don’t even realize exists. Or, maybe we do realize it. Everyone is so different and although the type of music we listen to seems like such a basic characteristic about ourselves, it can actually be a trait that links us to our past and who we are very very deep down. So yeah, music is amazing. Music is us.
